The Energy Resolution of The MAGIC Telescope

چکیده
In the field of gamma-rays Astrophysics in the – energy domain, the understanding of spectra of detected gamma rays is necessary in developing models for acceleration, emission, absorption and propagation of very high energy particles in their sources and in space. Therefore, high precision in the measurement of the energy of observed gammas is important. On the example of the 17 ø MAGIC telescope, we study in this paper the energy resolution of an imaging Cherenkov telescope operating in stand-alone mode in the – energy range.

Status of the second phase of the MAGIC telescope
The MAGIC 17m diameter Cherenkov telescope will be upgraded with a second telescope with advanced photon detectors and ultra fast readout within the year 2007. The sensitivity of MAGIC-II, the two telescope system, will be improved by a factor of 2. In addition the energy threshold will be reduced and the energy and angular resolution will be improved. The design, status and expected performanc...
متن کاملObservation of VHE γ-rays from Cassiopeia A with the MAGIC telescope
Aims. We searched for very high energy (VHE) γ-ray emission from the supernova remnant Cassiopeia A Methods. The shell-type supernova remnant Cassiopeia A was observed with the 17 meter MAGIC telescope between July 2006 and January 2007 for a total time of 47 hours. Results. The source was detected above an energy of 250 GeV with a significance of 5.2 σ and a photon flux above 1 TeV of (7.3±0.7...
متن کاملThe Magic Telescope Project for Gamma Astronomy above 10 Gev
A project to construct a 17 m diameter imaging air Čerenkov telescope, called the MAGIC Telescope, is described. The aim of the project is to close the observation gap in the γ-ray sky extending from 10 GeV as the highest energy measurable by space-borne experiments to 300 GeV, the lowest energy measurable by the current generation of ground-based Čerenkov telescopes. The MAGIC Telescope will i...
متن کاملObservation of Galactic Sources of Very High Energy Γ-rays with the Magic Telescope
During its first cycle of observations, the MAGIC (Major Atmospheric Gamma-ray Imaging Cherenkov) telescope has observed very high energy γ-rays from fife galactic objects: the Crab Nebula, the SNRs HESS J1813-178 and HESS J1834-087, the Galactic Center and the γ-ray binary LS I +61 303. After a short introduction to the MAGIC telescope and the data analysis procedure, the results of these fife...
متن کاملObservations of Very High Energy Gamma-Rays during Moonlight and Twilight with the MAGIC Telescope
We study the capability of the MAGIC telescope to observe under moderate moonlight. TeV γray signals from the Crab nebula were detected with the MAGIC telescope during periods when the Moon was above the horizon and during twilight. This was accomplished by increasing the trigger discriminator thresholds. No change is necessary in the high voltage settings since the camera PMTs were especially ...
